2 Camera Editing

Hey guys, Just a quick question Im doing a 2 camera edit using final cut pro 3, is there any way I can have 2 canvases? One displaying the video on V1, and the displaying the video on V2? I know this is a long shot but thought I would ask. If I cant do it in FCP, is there another mac app? Cheers guys Anth

Re: 2 Camera Editing

well i dont know of any editing program that does what you want. I know its pain in the butt, but you may have to switch back and forth between videos. Good luck.

Re: 2 Camera Editing

Because fcp is so weak with multi-cam editing, you'll need to lay cam 1 on v1 and cam2 on v2. You can then just go through v2 subtrctivly revealing v1 when ya want. You don't have to re sync stuff over and over again this way as long as both cameras remained rolling. You might alslo try ganging your cam2 in the source window with your sequence. I've not tried this and don't think it will play both but give it a try.

I'm pretty sure Premier Pro lets you work with 2 different timeline sequences at the same time [by switching back and forth, but not having to close the first project to view the second].

Before you recommend or say something, you want to make sure it works and that you know what you are talking about. "I'm pretty sure" will not get you hired by any production company nor give anyone any confidence in you.

Re: 2 Camera Editing

Avid Media Composer is good for multi cam editing. It has a group function where you can group as many as 4 camera together either by in points or timecode. You can easily switch between the different cameras in different modes. There is a quad mode where you can have the 4 cameras as thumbnails in the source monitor.

Yea thats a really great feature in the avid. Its used to edit most of the sitcoms on TV.
