AFI is a truly a filmmaker's institute. We don't buy text books, we don't have a football team, but we have a library which houses just about everything on films. We have 7 different disciplines: Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Editing, Writing, Production Design and Digital media. We form a team from each discipline and make two movies in first year then in second year we make one movie and concentrate on
ready to go package for studios and investors.
With our own AFI international film festival, AFI life time achievement awards, Professionals as instructors and absolute attitude on filmmaking, it is the best enviornment for a filmmaker to be in. As a producing fellow at AFI, I'm learning more about filmmaking than ever before. Highly competetive in getting in and more so when you get in, but people you meet through its connection is priceless. Thumbs up!

Re: AMERICAN FILM INSTITUTE
This guy forgot to mention that only a few people get to go on to make the 2nd year films. Also, all the "AFI events" (award shows etc.) are not at all student-inclusive. The administration tends to treat the students like a neccessary evil. There is great comradery in some of the productions groups formed... but many of the disciplines mentioned get short changed or abused in the process. Its a mixed bag (and if this guy were honest... he'd say so.)
My score: 3.
