Calling all indie filmmakers! For the first time, the producers of Silver Lake Film Festival - Los Angeles’ leading independent and alternative showcase - are offering an intensive, intimate one-day series of filmmaking workshops. Workshops will be limited in size so that you can make the most of your time with our experts! Gathering some of the best creative and business minds in the industry, the seminar will focus on what hundreds of independent filmmakers have told us over the years are the most challenging aspects of filmmaking. Whether you’re planning your first film, got a few notches under your belt and ready to advance your career to the next level, or a veteran in need of an in-your-face professional rejuvenation, the INDIE FILM BOOT CAMP® is for you.
These topics and more will be covered in a series of hour-long sessions with ample time left for Q&As:
* Producing on a Micro-Budget – Filmmakers who have successfully made features and shorts on micro budgets reveal their cost-cutting, budget-saving secrets, from getting name-talent commitments to low cost / no cost shooting locations, and how they obtained funding.
* Film Financing - Get the current low-down on various ways to finance your film, including pre-sales, supergap financing, negative pick-up, tax shelters, and much more.
* Distribution – Along with theatrical distribution, the Internet has created a whole new paradigm for indie film distribution. How do you appeal to traditional markets? And how do you make the most of these exciting new opportunities? Get savvy tips on approaching theatrical distributors and learn about Video on Demand, pay-advertising online TV networks, and other tricks of the trade.
* PR & Marketing – Join industry veterans as they explain how to position your film to capture the attention of the press and audiences alike.
* Film Festival & Market Strategies – The majority of independent films are first seen by a paying audience at film festivals. So how do you get in? And when do you know when the time is right to attend a market? Industry experts explain the best practice strategies for festival and markets.
* Legal – Seasoned entertainment attorneys tell how most common legal pitfalls experienced by indie filmmakers can be avoided with easy-to-follow procedures and will also describe current state tax incentives for filming.
* Music Licensing - The problem of unlicensed music has undone many an independent film. Our panel of music industry heavyweights shows how to avoid licensing problems and find great music with little or no money.
* Screenplay Development – Join top studio story analysts as they tell in no-holds-barred terms why some scripts are recommended for production, and others are sent to the circular file. Learn tips on enhancing a storyline while maintaining your personal vision.
