NYICFF is North America’s largest and most prestigious festival of film for children and teens, with a sold-out-in-advance audience of over 20,000 and a marketing reach of 2 million in the New York area. Each year NYICFF premieres a highly selective slate of the best animation, live action, documentary and experimental film from around the world, including groundbreaking new works by directors such as Hayao Miyazaki, Danny Boyle, Katsuhiro Otomo and Michel Ocelot. Most importantly, NYICFF is at the vanguard of a movement defining a new, more intelligent, relevant and compelling filmed entertainment for children. In recognition of these efforts NYICFF has been twice honored by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, while NY State Council for the Arts named NYICFF “a model for youth programming in New York State.”

FESTIVAL DATES: FEB 27 - MARCH 15, 2009

NYICFF JURY: Susan Sarandon, Gus Van Sant, Matthew Modine, James Schamus, Christine Vachon, Adam Gopnik, Lynne McVeigh and Rob Minkoff

CATEGORIES/FORMATS: Features, Shorts, Animation, Narrative, Documentary, Experimental, 35mm, and Video.

WHAT WE WANT: NYICFF seeks creative, original, non-formulaic works that will help to define a new, more compelling film for kids. We are not shy about showing films with mature themes, subject matter, language or sensibilities--especially for our teen and pre-teen audiences. If you are in doubt about the suitability of your film, we urge you to submit the work and let the NYICFF selection committee make the determination
