Ok so it was bad... but instead of sitting here wasting your time telling you how bad it is... I will tell you why.. (seeing that I have some time on my hands)...
I feel I would be right in assuming that whoever created this has little to none video production experience. Your mechanics for production are poor. For example: at 1:45 there was a jumpcut, and it wasn't the last or only one; shortly after that you had a fade-to-black when whoever was opening the door, and you froze the frame, don't do that, people will notice that, and usually if an average viewer will notice something, it can not be a good thing. Another problem I had was the extensive use of the fishey/wide-angle lens. It is a VERY overplayed concept that is now only found in bad student films, skate board videos, and close-ups of dogs.
I understand that you were going for the "dark-spooky" look, but the lighting is terrible in most parts... too many hard shadows, it just looks like some kids with a video camera came into someones room and shot this.
The storyline, is completely non-existent... even in the video description you say things like "who knows"... well its obvious nobody knows, I dont even think the director knows what is going on and what its supposed to mean.
... I don't feel that anybody would willingly start and finish watching this on there own without being asked to. But dont be to discouraged, there is a ray of light. There were some parts when I saw that there was a "Filmmaker" there... in the scene where I think he is going to operate on that guy ("Who Knows?") the man reached for the scissors, and the shot cut to a close up of him pulling the scissors away... Kudos to your editing skills for getting that in.
So if I were you (assuming you created this), I would first: take some video production workshop classes, enroll in a film school, or read some books on video production to learn the mechanics of video production. I wouldn't put much time in trying to create another lengthy project. You should shoot many several short skits (very short) to practice shots, and experiment with things.
Next: follow up on your editing techniques... I'm not sure what editing program you use, but invest in Final Cut or Avid, if you want to look professional. Learn about the flow of video... watch a show or a commercial, and count the number of Cuts to Dissolves or Fades, you'll notice there will be 100 cuts to one dissolve (exaggeration) but you'll get my point.
Third: Your going to have to stoyrboard, script write and re-write all of your projects... it makes things easier and, if it looks good on paper, it should look good on camera... I think I'd be right if I guessed there was no script in this video you made.
So read some books, magazines, and get feedback... I hope I helped, and I would be happy to watch anything else for you...
thanks for taking the time for writing me something about the movie
it's the second film i did and i didn't expect it to be perfect, that's why i appreciate anyone who is trying to criticize it . The first film i did i don't even see it as a real film, but people still like it (i sent it to a not important festival), maybe i will upload on youtube...
the jumpcut at 1:45 i did it on purpose, maybe it was a mistake that decision (the idea was to confuse the spectator in the beginning of the film, that's also why i used that music)
the problem is that in the second part it's still not clear maybe what i wanted to do, the part with the baron should be an intermission, but i couldn't write intermission
i prefer much to do a clear cut rather than dissolving things, but i agree that i have to be more careful
sometimes
i like the use of light where is someone eating with the guy on cross on the back, but it is terrible at the beginning where is the guy sleeping, i didn't had the possibility to shoot again that part
i know i did many errors that's why i am asking what are the most bothering things in the film, but i still think that there are some good parts, i had good critique about some parts the best part for me is the snow part at the end.
i checked on youtube and most people(only few people saw the film ) watched both parts of the film, cutting it in 2 parts was a bad idea, it looses the feeling i wanted to preserve, but you can't upload on youtube more than 10 min
unfortunately i still can't organize things to do the real film i wanted to do.
you can check another of my videos here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpBJF2lTYlg
i did all by myself, the lights were terrible and i had some other problems, but the result is not bad
let me know what do you think
Yeah this is fine... in fact anytime there is a youtube of a band playing, and its not from a cell phone, it cant be too bad... but yeah good job...
So how many cameras did you use for this shoot... and where was the audio from? j.w.
You seem to have a good sense of the "formula" that was beat into me by my high school instructors when doing a shoot like this. That is having a wide shot, cut to a close up... now a couple of times you strayed away and cut from a wide shot to a similar wider shot, and things like that can really jump out at people. And if you can (I dont know if you could or not) try to get super close shots of the guitarists hands or anything like that, just to mix it up... and there was a big zoom at the beginning, dont do that, either use a slow push, or cut.... but besides that, that shoot seemed pretty professional...
i used about 5 cameras on tripods and i was jumping around to check if it is all working it was the first time i recorded a concert, the sound is from the camera, they made a mistake while recording the sound so i have only this
i had a lot of problems organizing this, i was afraid there won't be a lot of people it was 28 december so i had to put the cameras i one way that no one will notice if there isn't a lot of people, at the end there were a lot of people so i couldn't go closer to get close shots
the lights were total shit i was totally nervous
haha well you did a good job... 5 cameras huh? what kind of cameras do you have... and yeah you cant do anything about lights at a shoot like that except to boost up the aperture and lock it there...
yes it was pretty good... if you plan on dont concerts and shoots like this, you should look into investing into a microphone, probably a shotgun mic, keep it on the furthest camera and point it at the band... or get a good mic to keep up close to the band, and use a shotgun mic for crowd and house sound
i just rented some cheap cameras, i have a really good microphone for my dead camera , but i didn't use it because they had other equipment to record the sound , but there was an error i don't know what was wrong and i can't use it. at that time i had my old canon xl1, now my camera is damaged it's not worth to spent to fix it

yes as long as you profit from your work, its good to rent equipment... but when you need to practice or try new camera moves or editing tricks, you might want to have a decent camera of your own to do that, but only if necessary.
The problem is that's very expensive to get a good camera, but at the beginning i started making video with a chip photo camera, you can still learn the basics and the editing, then you need something better
i was lucky i get my canon xl1 for a very good price, at that time it was good
but it takes a lot of time to learn things and money is always a problem
it's even worse if you live in Slovenia because the film school is pure shit.
