WRITING FOR FILM TELEVISION.
October 4th and 5th, 2008.
With Randy Pearlstein (Chappelle’s Show, Cabin Fever).

Saturday, October 4th - Screenwriting (Comedy and Drama). 10am - 4:30pm.
Sunday, October 5th - Television Writing (Sitcom, Drama, Sketch). 10am - 4:30pm.

This is the same lecture that Randy has provided for the Directors Guild of Canada.

Students may sign up for a single day or for both.

October 4th: The topics will include:
Finding an idea that will work, Writing in pictures, Genre formats, Outlining, 3 act structure, Sequences, Rewrites, Finding an agent and Pitching. There will be numerous film clips in addition to individual exercises, group discussions and script analysis.

October 5th: Topics will include:
Writing fiction from real life, Character as story, Sitcom format, One hour dramas, Sketch comedy, Why classic shows work, Creating a cast, Preparing writing samples and Working in a writers room. There will be television clips, group exercises and individual writing assignments.

RANDY PEARLSTEIN has written numerous screenplays including Lions Gate’s Cabin Fever and Cabin Fever 2. In addition to writing films, Randy was a regular cast member on the hit series CHAPPELLE’S SHOW and a staff writer on the NBC/Bravo pilot THE LATEST SHOW. Randy studied screenwriting at NYU’s film school and has been writing for over 15 years. His other experiences include his work as a stand-up comic and studying directing with Mike Nichols. Randy has been a guest speaker at colleges across North America and at the esteemed Directors Guild of Canada.
