Ok, what do i need to sell feature film script, agent, then what?

Hi

I am a fresh out of film school (UK) film graduate, i actually do all sorts of things but i want to breaking into writing scripts and also directing my own work.

So, i just want to know about how to actually go about breaking into the Hollywood system.

I guess first of all i need a feature film script. Once i have that no one would simply take it of my hands would they, and give me money for it. So from what i know i need an agent. So how do i actually go about getting one? Do i need a UK based agent or an American/Hollywood agent? How do i get one to represent me?

Once i have an agent i want to know if i am able to send out the script myself, to production companies/film studios (????) myself or does my agent do that for me and i dont ahve to do a thing (i am just thinking what if my agent is too busy, or doesn't think its worth sending to a certain company, or doesn't work hard enough for me because he's representing to many other scriptwriters?

Also where i wanted to ultimately end up is Directing. Not neccessarily directing all my own scripts, i will happily let some of them go for money, etc, but there are certain ones that i want to be attached to as director. So my question is would a studio/financier/producer trust someone who has never really directed before. Would it be easier to remain attached as a director to a high budget epic sci-fi film (Star Wars, Sunshine, Event Horizon type of film) or to a lower-budget single location sort of film (Cube, Bound, Phonebooth type of film).

If i ultimately do want to be a Director, i guess i should take no offer, no matter how much money they offer, but stay attached as Director and if their not willing i should walk away? Is this true?

I dont mean to sound egotistical or self deluded, im not, i just want to know what to do to, make it in the film industry as writer/director.

I have been writing all my life and i have many short film scripts (no features yet) and would appreciate any feedback whatsoever, good or bad and if anyone would be willing to read a few i will happily email you them. One of which i did make into a film actually, which i directed myself at film school.

Hope to hear back from you guys, thanks.

You break into the Hollywood

You break into the Hollywood system by having a product studios think will sell.

You'll need several excellent, marketable scripts and a great, award winning indie feature as a director.

It's good that you're happy to let some scripts go for money, etc. because that will be a major selling point when you hold out for a directing deal. If you sell three or four scripts that make hundreds of millions at the box office and you have one that studios think will make hundreds of millions at the box office, they will let you direct.

When will you write that first feature script? Seems like you'll need several before you let some of them go for money.
