IFP/LA is now accepting submissions for the 2004 Directors Lab, which will take place in Los Angeles from February, 2004 through March, 2003. The deadline for submissions is December 20, 2003. IFP/LAs Directors Lab is an intensive seven-week program designed to support directors working in independent film. Past lab instructors include Allison Anders, Rodrigo Garcia, Nicole Holofcener, and Michael Steinberg. The Lab is sponsored by Gateway, Inc. During the lab, participants select scenes from their scripts and walk through a mini-production under the guidance of the lab instructor. Participants learn how to break down a script, collaborate with a cinematographer, work with actors and construct a scene in the editing process. In addition, lab participants have one-on-one meetings with lab advisors, which range from established directors, producers, casting directors and other industry professionals who advise them on their projects. Participants also receive access to DV cameras and to Final Cut Pro as well as a complimentary pass to the IFP/LA Director Series, which runs concurrently. The application form is attached.
