SUBMISSIONS OPEN: Spotlighting & Supporting Indie Horror

Since 2012, Popcorn Horror (popcornhorror.com) have been finding innovative ways to support and promote independent horror filmmaking. From zombie weddings to a full weekend variety horror festival, the Scottish project has become a must-read source for indie horror news, art, video and other content.

Following an evening Halloween festival in 2015, the full day Glasgow Horror Festival in 2016, and a much larger scale festival and convention last year - the team have been steadily growing a following in their home city, the UK horror scene and beyond.

For 2018, Popcorn Horror is determined that horror not just be for Halloween. At the beginning of this year, they revealed a companion festival to their annual October festivities. Glasgow Horror Festival: BITE SIZE is a Spring film festival aiming to bridge the long wait between Halloweens.

The festival is set to take place in Blackfriars Bar, Bell Street on Sunday 1st April. Focusing more on filmmaking than the October variety line-up, BITE SIZE is set to feature a horror feature double-bill and two shorts programs to terrify Glasgow residents.

In keeping with the ethos of the project, Popcorn Horror encourages submission from filmmakers at various points in their career and keeps submission costs to an absolute minimum in order to be as accessible as possible to all creative horror enthusiasts. Submission costs are just $6 for short films and $12 for features, with the funds being used to support events such as this, which give indie creators a voice among the horror community.

Previous Glasgow Horror Festival winners include the praised indie folk horror Dogged from director Richard Rowntree and Ash Mountain Films and BURN by Slaughtered Bird Films and director Judson Vaughan. The variety of films shown has encompassed gruesome revenge, zombie documentaries, cannibal stop motion, monster cartoons, eerie animal masks and giallo inspired films.
